FAQ – Gas
Answers to your most frequently asked questions about our gas products.
Switching to Grünwelt Energie
By switching to a gas tariff from Grünwelt Energie you benefit in several ways: thanks to our lean organisation we offer cost-effective tariffs and supply you with 100% sustainable, climate-neutral natural gas. That is good for the environment and gentle on your wallet at the same time. Of course, we do not skimp on service – our friendly customer service representatives are at your side with advice and support for any matter relating to your energy supply.
Every gas customer with their own meter can switch to us comfortably and securely. Simply enter your postcode and consumption in our tariff calculator and you will receive a non-binding price quote. Then click the "Order" button and we will guide you step by step through the ordering process – of course over an encrypted connection. At the end you will receive an order confirmation that you can print for your records. A few days later you will receive your contract confirmation. In the meantime we already take care of all formalities. We cancel your old gas contract if needed and switch you to our affordable tariffs at the agreed delivery date without any interruption to your gas supply.
If you rent an apartment with your own gas storey heating system you can switch to us without any problem. The same applies if you rent a house with its own gas meter. If you live in a multi-family building without your own meter, you should ask your landlord or property manager about a switch, since the meter may be shared between several residents.
For your gas supplier switch you will need the number of your gas meter, last year's gas consumption and your customer number from your previous supplier. As a rule, all of this information can be found on your last gas invoice. We also need your delivery address and, if applicable, a SEPA mandate. All data is transmitted via an encrypted connection and handled in accordance with German data protection regulations.
As a rule you do not have to cancel your existing gas contract yourself, since you can grant us a power of attorney to do so as part of your order. We then cancel your old gas contract for you in good time before the delivery date and take care of all formalities. The only exception: if you wish to switch to us due to a price increase or another short-term termination right, you should cancel the contract yourself because of the tight timeframe. In that case please give us the end date of your contract when ordering.
No, no further contracts are required. With your order to us you have already done everything that is necessary.
No, no costs are incurred for switching to us.
If you are already a Grünwelt Energie customer and are interested in placing another order, please give us a call – our friendly service experts will gladly check together with you which options are available for your contract. You can reach our customer service via our contact addresses.
Delivery date: how long does the switch take?
For switching gas suppliers, statutory deadlines apply that all providers must adhere to. If your previous contract does not have long notice periods, it takes around four weeks from your order to your supply. Shortly after your order you will receive a contract confirmation with a likely start date for delivery. We then cancel your old gas supply contract and register your delivery point with the responsible grid operator. Both your previous supplier and the grid operator must confirm these steps. Once we have the green light from both, we will inform you immediately with a delivery confirmation.
We make every possible effort to meet your desired delivery date. For the supplier switch, however, we also rely on the cooperation of your previous provider and the local grid operator. Should there be any problems, we will of course inform you immediately and look for a solution right away so that you can be supplied as soon as possible.
Yes, you can submit an order in advance even if your old contract still has a remaining term. The remaining term of your old contract may be up to 12 months.
Yes – if you make use of a special right of cancellation you can let us know within your order. We will then note that date for your supply.
For the meter reading at the start and end of your gas supply, your grid operator will contact you to obtain a reading. We recommend that you also report the reading to your grid operator and keep a copy for your records.
No – statutory regulations make it impossible for a supply interruption to occur when switching gas providers. The local backup supplier ensures continuous gas supply at all times – even if there should ever be a problem.
Payment and billing
We first calculate your expected invoice amount for the coming year and then divide it into equal monthly installment amounts so that the year-end statement results in the smallest possible difference. The exact amount and payment dates can be found in your delivery confirmation. You can pay your installments by SEPA direct debit or bank transfer.
The base price is a fixed annual basic charge in your contract that is billed monthly. The working price is the variable charge per kilowatt-hour of gas consumed.
The expected invoice amount for the coming year is divided into monthly installments, so that at the end of the billing year there is as small a difference as possible. To do so, your consumption is multiplied by the working price per kilowatt-hour and the annual base charge is added. Divided across the individual months, the result is the monthly installment amount. Any new customer bonus that has been agreed is not included in the monthly installments because it is paid out to you on the dates agreed in the contract.
After one supply year we will first ask you to send us your meter reading. We then create your consumption invoice for the past year and send it to you.
Some tariffs include a new customer bonus. This bonus can be granted as a percentage credit on the total cost of the gas supply within the first year of supply or as a bank transfer after a certain number of days following the start of supply. The respective conditions and the amount of the bonus depend on your tariff and are stated in your order form and contract confirmation.
If we have agreed a limited price guarantee, we may not change the prices during this period. Excluded are changes in fees payable to the market area manager (e.g. SLP balancing levy, conversion levy), the concession fee, the gas tax and the energy tax. Also excluded are price changes resulting from new taxes, levies or other state-imposed burdens or relief affecting the procurement, generation, network use (transmission and distribution) or consumption of gas. § 6 of our terms and conditions applies to price changes.
Moving and moving in
Please notify us of your move at least two weeks in advance, for example via our contact form. We are happy to supply you at your new address with our affordable tariffs. Please contact us by phone or email and we will gladly make you an attractive offer.
If you move into a new property as the first occupant and want to be supplied with affordable Grünwelt tariffs, this can be arranged retroactively up to 6 weeks after moving in. Otherwise, the local default supplier will provide gas to your new home temporarily. Please tell us your desired delivery start date as part of your order.
When you move into an apartment we need, among other things, the planned move-in date and the meter number of the apartment in question. As a rule you can obtain this from your future landlord on request.
Technical questions
A kilowatt-hour is a unit of energy. It refers to the amount of energy delivered or consumed at a power level of 1,000 watts over one hour.
No, you do not need to make any changes to your gas connection. A meter replacement is also not required.
No – statutory regulations make it impossible for a supply interruption to occur when switching gas providers. The local backup supplier ensures continuous gas supply at all times – even if there should ever be a problem.
At the end of each supply year we will ask you to read your meter and submit the value online. The local grid operator may also carry out readings.
For disruptions in the gas supply, your local grid operator remains the point of contact, just as before. They are obliged to continue resolving disruptions. We pay a usage fee for the operation and maintenance of the meter and the gas grid, and this is already included in your price.
All personal data we receive in the context of the gas supply contract is handled strictly in accordance with applicable data protection laws. This means: we collect, process and use your data exclusively for contract execution, support and advice regarding your gas supply with us. Grünwelt will not sell or otherwise market your data to third parties.
Our affordable gas flows through the gas network to your house connection just as before. The existing pipes and lines are used, for which we pay a usage fee to the gas network operator. These charges are of course already included in your gas price.
If your gas consumption is only available in cubic metres (m³), it needs to be converted into kilowatt-hours (kWh). The volume in m³ is multiplied by the gas calorific value and the state number. Both values are determined by the grid operator for the delivery location. As a rough estimate, the volume in cubic metres can be multiplied by 10.

Information on online ordering
Your order is completed in 5 clicks and works as follows:
In the first step you tell us your postcode and your expected annual energy consumption via the tariff calculator.
In the second step you receive your price quote and can, if necessary, choose between several tariff offers with one click.
In the third step you provide your personal data, billing and delivery address and further details about your previous contract relationship and your meter.
In the fourth step you tell us your preferred payment method.
In the fifth step you check whether your information is correct. You will see a summary of your details. At this point you have not yet placed an order and can – if necessary – make changes to your information. Only by clicking the "Order" button do you submit your order.
After submitting your order you will receive a confirmation page. If you have provided an e-mail address, you will receive an acknowledgement of receipt by e-mail. This does not yet constitute acceptance of your order to conclude an energy supply contract – it merely confirms receipt of your offer.
Only orders from consumers resident in the Federal Republic of Germany and in the German language are accepted. By clicking the "Order" button in the fifth step of the ordering process you submit a binding offer to conclude an energy supply contract. The contract is concluded once we accept the customer order (offer) by issuing our contract confirmation, and it begins with the start of energy delivery. The contract confirmation is issued by us promptly after receipt of the contract offer.
The contract text is stored by us and made available to you on request.
Questions about climate-neutral gas
At Grünwelt Energie you receive climate-neutral natural gas, where the harmful greenhouse gases produced during combustion are offset elsewhere through investments in climate protection projects. All information on climate gas certification can be found at Our Eco Gas.
Our goal is to offer climate-neutral gas at affordable prices. In many cases our tariffs are therefore significantly cheaper than the local default supplier and many conventional gas offers. You can easily and conveniently calculate your savings potential with our tariff calculator.
The CO2 emissions produced when our customers burn natural gas are offset through investments in climate protection projects. You can transparently view the climate protection projects at Our Eco Gas.
