Idlib: a hospital for mothers and children

Idlib remains the scene of fierce fighting. There are injuries every day, and medical facilities have often been the target of bombardments. In many towns only a single hospital remains, such as the Maternity and Children's Hospital. For a long time the hospital worked in secret. When the money ran out, the staff carried on as volunteers, assisting births and treating the injured – as best they could.

When CARE learned of this, we decided to help immediately. For the first time in many months, the hospital now has enough medicines, electricity and water again. Every month the hospital cares for 500 small children, 140 births and 3,000 patients in total, and at the same time trains local midwives. CARE has pledged to keep the hospital running and is therefore grateful for urgently needed donations.
