Emergency aid for Rohingya refugees
Support for the largest refugee camp in the worldIn predominantly Buddhist Myanmar, the Muslim Rohingya minority has been persecuted for decades. In August 2017 there were violent clashes between Rohingya rebels and the country's army and police. Since then, around 920,000 people have fled the violence in Myanmar to Bangladesh. Their makeshift shelters in the south of the country form the largest refugee camp in the world. More than half of the refugees are children and young people. Many of them are traumatised by terrible experiences.

Cox's Bazar refugee camp
The situation in Cox's Bazar remains a huge challenge. Many people are traumatised and live in precarious conditions. There is a lack of food, clean water and sanitary facilities. In summer and autumn, monsoons and cyclones are also a threat. Such extreme weather events are a disaster within the disaster for people who largely live in fragile, improvised shelters. Landslides have already left many people homeless once again.
Help for those affected
As part of an emergency relief project funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and by donations, Welthungerhilfe is working in Camp 27 Jadimura to make living conditions more bearable for families, including the distribution of food, cooking facilities and the supply of fresh water.
