Help for a life in dignity in the refugee campNorth-western Syria is still in a crisis situation due to ongoing military operations. The result is a large number of displaced people. In the project area alone there are 586,215 newly displaced people, most of whom lack basic supplies. The aim of the project is to close the gaps in people's needs in the following places: the sub-districts of Sarmada and Taftanaz and the communities of Zardana Mashehad, Ketyan, Sarmada and Shallakh.

How the supply works
When thousands of people seek shelter in a Syrian region, this enormously increases the socio-economic pressure on an area that is usually already battered by crisis and threatens its food security. The extreme population growth has consequences: food becomes scarce, for example, and therefore ever more expensive. Although the markets in the region are functioning, many people cannot afford the rising prices of food and other everyday goods.
Support through vouchers
The families have already lost everything. So that they can preserve their freedom and dignity, Welthungerhilfe distributes what are known as “multi-purpose vouchers” to around 10,000 people. With the vouchers they can buy urgently needed items in selected shops. Whether these are food, hygiene articles, cooking utensils or other everyday goods is left up to them. At the same time, the multi-purpose vouchers also support the local economy and keep the markets working.
