Help for children in YemenWe are all currently experiencing a crisis of unprecedented scale, accompanied by many worries – both health-related and economic. For many, their very existence is at stake. The effects of the pandemic are most serious for people whose everyday lives were already marked by scarcity and crises: hunger, poverty, natural disasters, armed conflict and precarious health care are made even worse by the coronavirus crisis. In addition to current relief measures, it is therefore important to strengthen the resilience of particularly vulnerable population groups in the long term.

Welthungerhilfe's work continues
More than ever, prevention in the field of hygiene can now save lives. That is why Welthungerhilfe is expanding its measures in this area at full speed. In the countries concerned it can rely on dependable partner organisations that respond to the challenges with great energy and flexibility. Creativity and organisational talent are also required when it comes to supplying food. For example, the BhoomiKa project supported by Welthungerhilfe in India launched a delivery service for fresh food in urban areas, and large-scale cooking campaigns in villages ensure that hundreds of families in need receive a hot meal.
This is how the help is delivered
Welthungerhilfe installs hand-washing facilities and latrines, distributes soap and ensures the water supply in public places such as markets and schools. Covid-19 education is integrated into ongoing projects, for example through hygiene training. Welthungerhilfe supports local partner organisations in producing, procuring and using awareness materials such as posters, radio spots, loudspeaker announcements and social media posts. Those particularly affected receive hygiene and food packages and, where possible, seed as well.
