The aim is to reduce disadvantage and give women better opportunities for a self-determined life. The focus is on education, economic independence, health, protection from violence and active participation in social decision-making processes.

Aid for earthquake victims in Venezuela
2026
On the evening of 24 June 2026, two severe earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 shook northern Venezuela within seconds of each other. The epicentres lay in the coastal region of Yaracuy state, around 170 kilometres west of Caracas. Because the quakes were so shallow, the extent of the destruction is particularly severe – it is the worst earthquake in Venezuela in more than 125 years. The government declared a state of emergency shortly after the disaster.

Living conditions in Ghana still lag behind this progress in many places, even though economic successes have been recorded in recent years. In rural regions, people hardly benefit from them. There, only 66 per cent of the population have access to drinking water. With our project “Drinking water wells for Ghana”, we are giving 5 communities a sustainable water supply by building manual pumps in rural regions.

The earthquake of 6 February 2023 in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş, with a magnitude of 7.7, is considered the earthquake with the highest number of victims since the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. It affected many other areas as well, so that by 22 April 2023 more than 59,000 dead and more than 125,000 injured had been recorded.

The Grünwelt Foundation supports Plan International in the project “Clean water for Ghana” to improve the sanitation and hygiene situation as well as the drinking water supply in 36 project communities. Around 32,000 community members are to gain access to clean, affordable water and sanitary facilities.

The Grünwelt Foundation supports the SOS Children's Villages in Uganda in raising awareness of environmental and climate protection in schools and communities, in the use of alternative energy in households and public schools, and in protecting forest stocks.

Aid for people in need continues – with all necessary precautions and despite all restrictions. The world's crisis regions must not be forgotten because of the coronavirus outbreak. Together with their international networks, aid workers are working flat out to ensure that people in poor countries affected by war or natural disasters are cared for and to prevent the virus from spreading further. Health systems there are weak. Without support from aid organisations, the virus can spread quickly. The more people fall ill, the harder it becomes to treat them all.

We are all currently experiencing a crisis of unprecedented scale, accompanied by many worries – both health-related and economic. For many, their very existence is at stake. The effects of the pandemic are most serious for people whose everyday lives were already marked by scarcity and crises: hunger, poverty, natural disasters, armed conflict and precarious health care are made even worse by the coronavirus crisis. In addition to current relief measures, it is therefore important to strengthen the resilience of particularly vulnerable population groups in the long term.

With the support of the physician Prof. Dr. med. Gerhard Trabert, the “Mainz model of health care for homeless people” ensures that medical, nursing and social work assistance can be provided during medical consultations in facilities for the homeless and in accommodation for refugees. The need for medical help was and remains great. There are now around 2,500 to 3,000 treatments for approximately 600 patients per year.

North-western Syria is still in a crisis situation due to ongoing military operations. The result is a large number of displaced people. In the project area alone there are 586,215 newly displaced people, most of whom lack basic supplies. The aim of the project is to close the gaps in people's needs in the following places: the sub-districts of Sarmada and Taftanaz and the communities of Zardana Mashehad, Ketyan, Sarmada and Shallakh.

World Vision Syria
2019
Inadequate water, sanitation and solid waste management pose a risk to health and protection, especially for vulnerable women and children. In order to meet the needs of the most vulnerable and to reduce the associated risks, World Vision works to provide water, safe waste disposal and sewage disposal, and to meet the needs of children and their families who live in the camps set up at Bardarash and Gawilan, where they struggle to gain access to basic services such as water, safe waste disposal and sewage disposal.

In Syria, CARE works together with local partners to provide families with food, blankets, clothing, stoves and heating materials. CARE also supplies people with hygiene and newborn packages and other important relief goods. In addition, CARE supports a Syrian clinic with medicines, materials and financial aid so that it can maintain medical care for 250,000 people.

After the end of the Ebola epidemic, Sierra Leone is fighting hunger and poverty more desperately than ever. Agriculture and trade urgently need to be revived. To achieve this, rural areas in particular depend on a functioning power supply. But sufficient electricity is not available everywhere.

Aid for earthquake victims in Nepal
2015
The earthquakes of 25 April and 12 May 2015, with magnitudes of 7.9 and 7.4, are regarded as the deadliest disaster in Nepal's history. According to the government, around 9,000 people died as a result of the quakes and some 22,300 were injured. 600,000 houses lay in ruins across the country. In Gorkha and Sindhupalchok, the epicentres of the quakes, nearly 90 per cent of the infrastructure and homes were destroyed.

Of most of the simple houses, only a few foundation walls remain; of others, only a few loose bricks lying around. Until a few weeks ago, around 2,000 people still lived here. But then came Cyclone Idai, one of the most severe tropical storms in the southern hemisphere since weather records began – the residents were left homeless overnight.

Emergency aid for Rohingya refugees
2018
In predominantly Buddhist Myanmar, the Muslim Rohingya minority has been persecuted for decades. In August 2017 there were violent clashes between Rohingya rebels and the country's army and police. Since then, around 920,000 people have fled the violence in Myanmar to Bangladesh. Their makeshift shelters in the south of the country form the largest refugee camp in the world. More than half of the refugees are children and young people. Many of them are traumatised by terrible experiences.
